Yang Sheng 养生
Yang Sheng 养生, a traditional Daoist practice, focusing on self-cultivation to support health and longevity.
Translated as “nourishing life”, Yang Sheng is the foundation of health in Chinese medicine.
Sleep: Sleep is so important. Try to maintain a regular sleeping schedule, aiming for 7-9 hours per night. Go to sleep when you first get tired, typically around 8.30-10pm. Listen to your body when it calls for more sleep.
Environment: Live in harmony with nature and your environment. Adapt to seasonal changes and align with natural rhythms to support your body’s needs. As winter approaches, focus on inward energy, warmth and rest.
Diet: Choose seasonal whole foods and opt for warm home-cooked meals. Eat mindfully. Listen to how your body responds to different foods.
Water: Drink water at least 2L per day, warm to room temp is best.
Exercise: Gentle exercise, yoga, Qigong, Tai Chi or walks in nature to enhance blood flow and energy.
Emotions: Cultivate positivity. Learn to manage stress and calm the mind by incorporating mindfulness, meditation or breathing exercises.
Preventative care: Acupuncture and herbal medicine to keep you in optimal health. An old Chinese proverb states “Waiting to treat an illness after it manifests is like waiting to dig a well after one is thirsty.”
If you are struggling with health problems, big or small, it is essential to nail the basics to allow for healing and balance. #chinesemedicine #acupuncture #yangsheng #health#foundationsofhealth #nourishinglife
